If you start any sort of fitness organization (yoga studios, gyms, crossfit, specialty marathon) the one thing you don’t want to skimp out on is merchandise that has your logo. Whether you are giving the products away as a promotion for new sign ups or offering certain items as merchandise, branding is essential.
Branded merchandising for the fitness industry is a multi-billion dollar industry and its really not a shock since most of these items are very useful to the members. Towels for sweat, hoodies for the winter, headbands for sweaty heads, mats for yoga, etc. The list goes on and on. So the question really is: Why are you letting other companies sell the products that you and your members could benefit from?
For example, you could put your brand on 50 towels for as little as $300.
Build Loyalty with Inexpensive Products
When people decide to join a gym or take on yoga classes they are doing it to better themselves. It’s important to take a step back and realize that health and being healthy is a huge part of all of your members self esteem. They want to be a part of something great, they want your gym to represent them. This unfortunately, is something most new and seasoned gym owners do not take into account, which is why most new gyms don’t make it.
From the moment they sign up there are little inexpensive things you can do to build loyalty. One of them is giveaways such as a small custom product with your brand imprinted. Items such as silicone wristbands, sweatbands, key chains, stickers and more all can help your retention efforts. Little items make a BIG difference.
Quality Matters When You Are Selling
The most popular types of promo merch in the fitness realm these days are duffel bags, drawstring bags, towels, custom yoga mats and head sweatbands. Of course that is just scratching the surface. One also has to take into account protein and energy bars, shakes and other editable products you usually find at health centers.
The reason apparel items and other accessories (such as bags) are great to offer is because they are actually useful to the member. Often times you will find that new members will purchase all of this stuff while signing up for the membership. You can even do add-ons, like $5 per month to have access to clean towels (which of course have you logo embroidered!).
Always be sure to get a sample of any item you will be selling at the shop within your fitness organization. If we have learned anything from the most successful companies it’s that quality really matters and people are going to walk in expecting good quality these days right from the get go.
