Incredible Edibles: What You Need To Know About Using Food as Giveaways

I don’t know about you, but whenever I’m attending a tradeshow or convention, I naturally gravitate towards stalls that give away food. And I’m not the only one in line to get a free bag of chips… in fact, the most visited stalls in the show are usually the ones that use food as giveaways (unless another store is giving iPhones away of course).

Most entrepreneurs aren’t big on food items because as soon as customers eat them, their potential is consumed as well.  This is why it’s important for your food item to make an impact both on looks and taste to maximize their potential. Here are a few points you want to consider:

  1. Quality – I once was given a small box of fruits as a gift. As soon as I got home though, it turned out to be a big disappointment. Only the fruits that were visible in the packaging were ripe… the rest were over ripe some are even turning bad!  Make sure that the company you choose to package the food is trustworthy and puts emphasis on cleanliness when making and packing the giveaways.  Customers will remember if you’ve given away the worst chocolate chip cookies known to mankind. Trust me; they’d never give your company another thought! Remember that the quality of the food you giveaway is a reflection of your company.
  2. Taste –  Do you find yourself eating you own giveaway? You should! Pick food items that you love and enjoy as well. This way, you won’t find it hard to give them to customers. It’s more sincere, and makes for a good conversation starter.  Try opening with”Please take some of these delicious cookies- I can’t get enough of them!”
  3. Shelf Life – The last thing you want to do is give away items that have gone bad! Before deciding on a specific product, take into consideration its shelf life and special handling needed to transport and store it. Does it need to be in cold storage? Can it melt? Will it go bad soon after the event? Considering all the possibilities will ensure that your marketing budget won’t go to waste and your customers will get only the best  giveaways.
  4. Packaging – There are three things you need to consider when it comes to packaging. First, it needs catch the eye of your customer. Next, it needs to contain your company colors, logo and contact information. Last, it needs to be mobile for transport to the venue and portable for your customers to carry around.
