Wouldn’t it be nice to not have to worry about the cost of your wedding? Just planning the details it all seems to add up faster than you can type it in the calculator. But there is good news – you don’t have to pay an arm and a leg for your wedding!
“Our whole wedding cost 180 bucks. Afterward, we re-heated lasagna for everyone and set off fireworks. – Larry The Cable Guy
Enter Courtney & Jamil who had this crazy idea – let’s fund our entire wedding by selling sponsorship deals.
It worked and they even got a ring sponsor. Why? How? This is the 21st century! There is social media where anyone can be a celebrity, crowdfunding and much more. If you want to do something similar here’s what you can do.
5 Steps to a Free Wedding
1. Launch a Website
People need to know why they should sponsor your wedding. Who are you? What makes you as a couple so special? This all starts with a proper website. Courtney & Jamil’s is located here if you want ideas.
2. Launch a Full Blow Social Media Campaign
This goes without saying but… the only reason a brand would advertise at your wedding is because you have followers in the social realm. No one will advertise if they won’t get some sort of return. Its all about shares and the numbers matter – facebook likes, twitter, instagram, etc. If you want your wedding paid for start building that social following! Check out Courtney & Jamil’s facebook page.
3. Tell Everyone You Know & Get Press
What you will notice right away in the video below is the news anchor and the groom are neighbors! This is networking at its finest.
Of course, they also got featured on the Today Show and several other huge media outlets. But it all starts with opening your mouth and being LOUD about what you believe in.
4. Reach Out to Relevant Companies & Consider CrowdFunding
Who might you want to reach out to if your planning a corporate sponsored wedding in the Paradise of Phuket Thailand? The Resort would be numero uno – and this couple got the resort paid for which is a huge expense. Any company that would be associated with your wedding from the designer of the attire to the church can be put on the table. Everyone wants free advertising if it is presented right.
Assuming your not as good at reaching out to companies you can also try to put together a very solid crowdfunding campaign. There is a website dedicated to it! Come on now, do you really still think you have to pay for your wedding? Put in the work and it will be free.
5. (Optional) Marry a Marketing Professional
What makes this story so interesting is the bride Courtney is an amazing marketer. In nearly all the interviews you can tell that she is passionate about what she does and she is just applying it to her wedding. You achieve a free wedding by grinding it out using the steps above but it will be a heck of a lot easier if you just plan on marrying someone who has skin in the marketing game!
